The motorbike accident has left a 19-year-old man in a critical condition in Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital. He now has head injuries after losing control of his yellow Suzuki off-road bike on the quarry land. Mr Nicholson says "enough is enough - although Pilkington, the police and Doncaster Council all claim to be doing everything in their power to prevent illegal off road biking".

He goes on further to say "This land needs to be totally inaccessible to all forms of transport by either substantial fencing or gating, or by a constant security presence," said Mr Nicholson. "What will it take for action to take place - another near fatal accident or even a fatality? Will all the parties concerned turn round and say "we weren't aware of this problem" or look at each other and have an investigation on who's to blame when it's too late?

The head of corporate affairs at Pilkington said they are working with partners towards a solution. He says ""We've been in touch with the police and the council about this and we're doing our best to stop it".

South Yorkshire Police say The Doncaster Safer Neighbourhood Teams have been visiting schools informing pupils of the dangers of riding off road motorbikes in unsupervised areas. The Safer Neighbourhood Teams recommend cyclists maintain their motorbikes correctly by wearing safety equipment and only ride in designated motorcycle parks.

Councillor Stuart Exelby form Doncaster Council is a cabinet member for Neighbourhoods, Environment and Housing (Central), he say they are Working with the South Yorkshire Police and are committed to tackling illegal and off road motorbiking through planned weekly operations. Mr Exelby says "ultimately the responsibility is with the individuals who purchase and ride these machines illegally".

In the last year 50 motorbikes were seized and 967 abatement notices under the Environment Protection Act warning offenders to stop.

In another off-road motorbike accident an 18 year old man is in a critical condition in Doncaster Royal Infirmary but he is showing signs of improvement. He suffered head injuries following a collision with a car Thorne while riding an off-road motorbike on January 31.
